International Volunteer Day is celebrated on December 5th with the aim of expressing gratitude to all individuals and organizations who have dedicated their time, knowledge, and energy to helping others.
According to records from the Ministry of Labor, Pension System, Family, and Social Policy, in 2023, Croatia saw 1,660 reports submitted by volunteer organizers, with a total of 67,909 volunteers who donated over 3 million hours of their time to the community. This confirms the importance of volunteering as a driver of positive social change. The estimated cost of volunteering was valued at 3.8 million euros, but the actual contribution of volunteers far exceeds these figures. This day is an opportunity to thank all volunteers for their invaluable contributions and to encourage more people to engage in volunteer activities.
The Ministry of Labor, Pension System, Family, and Social Policy continuously supports the development of volunteering and, through the State Award for Volunteering, recognizes individuals and organizations that stand out for their dedication. We invite all citizens to join volunteer activities and contribute to the development of a society based on solidarity and community.
Thank you to all volunteers whose selfless actions make the world a better place.
Happy International Volunteer Day!
